My Blessed Sin

Feeling blessed by God is no substitute for putting our faith in God

O joyous heart, to Christ I’m lent, to the One who’s heaven sent
It’s just my pride, it’s not so bad, it keeps my heart from feeling sad
This blessed life I have right now, keeps me from seeing sin somehow
If God has blessed me evermore, why should I grovel on the floor?
Ask Him, forgive me my mistake? it’s no big deal, my heart won’t break
Don’t search for sin now, anymore, just wanting God to bless me more
God loves me so, why would I fret, for things I’ve not forsaken yet
Love myself more than my God? I think that’s me, I’d give a nod
He should forgive and make me whole, can cleanse my heart, restore my soul
Why would He let me fall away, and miss His coming, glorious day
If everyone is saved, it must be, that He would surely include me
My blessed sin, it keeps me here, believing that God still is near

O My child, you are deceived, see, you’re not saved ’cause you believe
The devils tremble and believe, and they are lost, be not deceived

God’s word is true, make it your guide, don’t trust the thoughts you have inside
You’re never good, although you try, to act like God, just choose to die
Jesus paid the price for you, to come to know the God who’s true
Your faith in Christ will make the switch, will lift your life up from the ditch
Trust in Him for all your days, and I will be your Friend always
Reject your sin to clearly see, you worship and and will live in Me,
To shape your life to My design, yes, this is what I have in mind
A useful tool that I can hold, through you the lives of others mold
All those I love I do chastise, thus I show their sin can’t hide
The sins that I have wiped away, won’t keep you from My glorious day
All those I call will persevere, and one day they’ll all gather here
Before My throne, in My own house, be loved as My eternal spouse

The Launch

Oh Lord, today we launch our child, for years You’ve loaned this gift from You

The joy he’s brought into our hearts, a blessing to our lives, it’s true

We launch him now into the world, You set his course upon Your word

You shaped his life from long ago, the gospel message he has heard

Years he’s spent within our nest, soaking in his parent’s best

A strong example we have been, to help him to forsake his sin

And be the man he longs to be, serving You eternally

Now he mounts upon the wing, to seek God’s will in everything

My son, we’re proud of you today, we’ve seen you walking in God’s ways

And now he goes to do Your will, his heart is what we have in view

Your Spirit leads and guides him there, to the place where he’ll serve You

Prepare the woman that You have, that he will know makes him complete

And godly wisdom let him bring, where at the gate he’ll take his seat

The launching pad is empty now, but at Your throne we humbly bow

To thank You for this awesome treat, to launch Your child here at Your feet

To impact others with Your word, and shape them with the truth we’ve heard

So now, we launch ourselves anew, together fly, our course is true

Walk with God in paths of light, showing others what is right

Cleanse our lives and use us Lord, touching lives beyond our reach

Drawing them into the fold, all the ones You bring we’ll teach

Serving all those You elect, infuse them with Your joy divine

Bearing with our frailties, one day with God we will dine

Your truth will guide our hearts to You, it always will, Your word is truth

It seeks us out in our distress, and changes all our Nos to Yes

You’ve made us all Your merry band, leading us by Your strong hand

To follow in the path You’ve set, to follow the God we can’t see yet

Our future is at Your command, be in Your glory, at Your right hand

The Altar

The altar’s wide and open space, is filled with love and lots of grace

It’s open anytime to you, to seek God’s help to pull you through

For there is no judgment here, unload your doubt and all your fear

His voice, it bids us closer now, to be with Him, before Him bow

In His light we can see, our failings and who we should be

Cleansed by Him, we’ve come so far, He tells us who we really are

Warriors of the mighty King, to fight, we just begin to sing

Our praise will rise from me and you, restore our vision, clear our view

But victory is in His hand, our enemies will never stand

Before Him we surrender all, before Him all our kingdoms fall

Direct those seeking, where to fall, on their knees to give Him all

He’s so patient when we fuss, yet glorifies Himself through us

At the altar, here we learn, to seek Him daily, for Him yearn

To listen for His still, small voice, and in praise, we make some noise

Rely upon His mighty power, that moves in us this very hour

His will to do, His glory bring, He works His will in everything

On Heaven

One day soon from earth you’ll go, where you’ll be, I hope you know

Spend a moment now with me, to see the place I hope you see

You don’t want the other place, where pain and darkness fill the space

See the light that’s from above, filled and flowing with God’s love

Ought you should go there instead, make the choice inside your head

Free from sin, your eyes will rise, behold His glory in the skies

To see the One who loves you so, who gave His life so you could go

His home to share up in the sky, and one day learn the reason why

His love He chose to give us here, that freed us from the grip of fear

We don’t deserve to even see, what by His power we can be

His smiling face to us He shows, and all His grace on us bestows

We the angels do behold, hear our stories now unfold

What the angels see always, heaven functions as God says

Walking through the pearl gates, three each way they open face

God upon the throne up high, Jesus seated by His side

Holy, holy ’round the throne, praises go to You alone

Cherubim with wings that fly, while covered, lift Your name up high

And we, like Ezekiel, comprehend what words can’t tell

Dark forces now will spend their might, deceiving folks with their fake light

But their time is running down, with every soul that’s saved they frown

Serving God is our reward, with the chance to use our sword

We await the word of God, at His beckon call we nod

Accomplishing our given task, in His glory now we bask

God inhabits everything, all His people join to sing

Salvation’s song they loud proclaim, loudly singing Jesus’ name

How we were redeemed from sin, God sent His son to save us then

Celebrate the mystery of how the church has come to be

Free from sin we now will stand, in heaven holding Jesus’ hand

Rewards await for earthly loss, things we gave up for the boss

Introducing those we’ve brought, whom Jesus’ blood has fully bought

God has jobs for you and me, working in eternity

Wondrous things await us now, low before His throne we bow

Knowledge of the higher things, the mind of Christ to us now brings

God’s revealed plan now complete, what’s next? hold on to your seat

Your Life Song

For one who is struggling

My friend, I send this word to you, to give you strength and pull you through

Discouragement, it holds you tight, although I pull with all my might

You need a stronger hand than mine, not of this world, something divine

The help you need is in God’s word, God spoke it and you’ve also heard

It’s written here, inside this book, now all you need to do is look

And so I now encourage you, to trust in God, His word is true

Though life is full of hurt, dismay, we’re looking for a better day

We point our souls up to the sky, where we will never ask, But Why

Our brief experience on this sod, prepares us for our life with God

So here and now, are sufferings, trials, but your reward be glory, smiles

So may these words, both true, divine, free you from the ties that bind

And may the song He’s put in you, carry you your whole life through

Continue the fight, trust God’s Son, He’ll lead you through till the victory’s won

Watch Him work your whole life long, you’ll praise Him through your own Life Song

The Webb Effect

For FBC Richmond youth group reunion

The bus was green, the note was blue, the driver is good, his heart is true

The man was called, he brought his wife, they served the church with their whole life

The youth retreats, with orders sealed, helped us grow, our hearts were healed

The Bible taught, they showed their love, thus we learned of God above

Others joined them in the fray, to teach the youth how they should pray

These brave adults who taught us truth, they cared for every single youth

And in their footsteps, we then walked, and often listened as they talked

Of how our lives could closer be, walk with God in intimacy

Now the days have turned to years, we’ve had some smiles, and yes, some tears

But God is still here, by our side, His grace is deep, His love is wide

We have become the leaders who, these leaders saw in me and you

Our turn to teach the younger crowd, to reach their hearts with music loud

The gift that God has given true, by those who’ve gone ahead of you

The gift of faith that you can share, with other people, everywhere

Are you engaged? Does your faith work? You’re not like those who often shirk

Our time is short, our mission grave, to win the fight we must be brave

To care for folks and reach the lost, we sacrifice and count the cost

For God has given much to us, and we give back without a fuss

Our love to give, our gift to show, with humble hearts, we bow down low

We serve the risen, mighty King, He is the Lord of everything

Your life He always will direct, so walk before Him circumspect

One day soon, we’re going home, to revel in His kingdom come

I Surrender Me

On coming to the place of willing uncertainty with God

Come today and follow Me, relax your grip and you can see

The things that I could do with one, who fully trusts and loves My Son

Not based upon your skills at all, the part you play, it is quite small

The work is by My hand, divine, and all the glory, it is Mine

My work begins inside of you, I see that there is much to do

You’ll rely upon My word, you’ll find your path in what you’ve heard

Success won’t come from your skill set, obedience is your best bet

Lord, despite the fact that I’ve been stalling, Your voice is still sweetly calling

I now release my own control, of what I have and where I go

I give myself into Your hand, where ever You lead, over sea or land

To speak Your word and do Your will, where ever I go You’re with me still

Attending to the inward things, with grace that true contentment brings

To cultivate and shape my life, to prune my sin, as with a knife

Called to serve, and qualified, adventure: God! it’s quite the ride

Gifts for the King

Our sacrifice to God we bring, some to serve, and some to sing

Some to speak His holy word, some to do just what we’ve heard

Some to give our very best, serving others, their lives bless

Some to lead and some to teach, all for Christ the lost to reach

He’s made us all with gifts unique, to build the body, His face to seek

Disciples teaching as we go, love for God, the more to show

Examples of the God we love, destined for heaven, up above

There to serve before His throne, our ever glorious Cornerstone

The Truth Blade

The daddy tells his little boy, be careful son, that’s not a toy

It’s sharp and you can hurt yourself, if you leave it on your shelf

A real man knows to handle this, with lots of prayer, just like your sis

The word is sharp, it’s blade is true, and it has no regard for you

The blade cuts deep, it’s healing touch, we want it not, but need it much

The Spirit’s power from sin does cleanse, it helps us see through holy lens

To live a holy, upright life, that’s pure and spotless in His sight

Thus your life is useful to, the One who gave His life for you

Son, beware to use this book, not just a glance or just a look

But drink it deeply every day, and God will then direct your way
