A Christmas I Can Hear

December means it’s Christmas time, although the ground’s not white

My decorations cannot match the twinkling stars at night

The Christmas tree is colorful, but makes no melody

The stockings bring back memories of things I cannot see

My Christmas celebration is much more than sharing cheer

It’s the story of the Gospel, good news for all to hear

Bright lights are only meaningful when they represent the Light

The free and awesome gift God gave that bright and holy night

The time has come, and Christ is born, God sees us visually

Christ is the Light in darkness, come down to set us free

The angel sent from heaven above, to a godly virgin maid

The angel’s word was God is pleased, His plan for us is laid

God’s son would come to live and die, the price for sin, He paid

Eternal life to give to all, whose hearts in faith obeyed

So Mary told the angel, “Yes, God’s servant now, am I”

And Joseph heard the angel’s word, of Mary’s child, and why

In His grasp He holds the world, and Joseph’s finger, too

He holds the hope of every man, yes, even me and you

A baby’s cry, a mother’s sigh, birthing there in Bethlehem

The angels speak, His glory seek, all who come to worship Him

The shepherds heard the angels’ word, and ran to see the baby boy

The shepherds’ word could then be heard, “We glorify and praise the Lord”

This truth about God’s word in flesh, was for all mankind’s ear

Was written in the word of God, that all could read and hear

It echoes through the ages, from every mountain top

The voices of His children sing, their praise will never stop

Simeon met our God in flesh, his prophecy did tell

He is destined for the rising and even those who fell

A sign that they will speak against, reject and even sell

Their King who came to save the lost, the sheep of Israel

The magi came to find the King, they asked about Him, “Where?”

The gifts they gave, the songs they sang, in worshipping Him there

Prophecy found fulfillment as they worshipped at His feet

Even Anna spoke of Him, to all that she did meet

Now Christmas songs, they tell the tale, what Christmas means to me

It’s more than trees and colored lights, and things that we can see

God spoke to us through Jesus, He’s what we were made to be

His sacrifice, our sin atoned, to God upon that tree

The gift that God has given, we each must then receive

Receive Him with thanksgiving now, in faith, hear and believe
