Vacationing in God’s presence

We come, we meet, vacation here, we hear the voice of God, “Draw near”

The sand and seashells line the shore, it’s evidence there’s so much more

The teeming stars that light the dark, the fire we light with just a spark

The streaming waves that meet the sand, the wind and rain are in His hand

The mountain peak and valley wide, are just a door to come inside

Our God, He rides upon the storm, our righteous character to form

His mighty power on display to those who trust in Him today

His faithful care to show and give, the holy lives that we should live

His invitation, “Come and see,” our transformation, “Follow Me”

His great reward, to turn aside, to rest in Him till we abide

The Uncluttered Celebration

Reflections of a thankful heart

I’m home for the holidays, the first one is best

With no expectations, just a promise of rest

My siblings will be there, their children are blessed

And I’m looking forward to sit with Aunt Jess

As parents and children we all come back home

The scent of mom’s kitchen, the push-button phone

The measuring lines of our years on the wall

Where forgiveness, like light, has been cast on us all

Familiar aromas and memories abound

And notes from the player piano resound

Beloved instructions from Grandmother’s hand

Still guide us in cooking wherever we stand

Stir in the cocoa and simmer on low

The legendary taste of her fudge we all know

Grandmother’s lesson was always be kind

Our faith and our foods and our family entwined

The next generation is raising their own

Salting their field with God’s truth that is sown

Raising their children firm in the faith

Surrounded by family and food that won’t wait

Hours of talking and games that we play

Renews our connection of love that will stay

Our nieces and nephews are all gathered round

Rehearsing their questions where wisdom is found

With Biblical wisdom, our guidance is sure

His truth without mixture is perfectly pure

Through each generation the wisdom is passed

The truth that is held in our hearts, it will last

Now gathered for worship each eye on the cross

Our hearts are all thankful for the Father’s grave loss

For the Son, He suffered so much on that day

But He rose from the grave and He calls out to say

Pick up your cross and follow Me well

My chosen will come to My city to dwell

No presents required at this table of grace

Just laughter and singing that oft fill this place

No wrappings to open nor gifts to receive

Thanksgiving is given to those who have need

In need of a shelter, or food for the soul

In need of salvation, the need to be whole

The need to rejoice and the need to be loved

The need for a Savior from heaven above

Father God, we are so full of Your love

Your Spirit inhabits from heaven above

Abundant supply overflows on those who

Need thankful hearts to become more like You

May thankful hearts line out our way

From this mere earth to an eternal day

In great celebration we’ll all sing on key

Sweet songs of salvation, in rich melody

A Morning Prayer

For the hospice team

Father,
You give to us Your caring hands, to serve the hurting, dyng man
To help the child or woman who puts all their faith and trust in You
And even those who know You not, we care for them with all we’ve got
Help all today to feel You near, and to hear You whisper in their ear
And give us strength in all we do, to give our best in service true

Ironing Board Lessons #2

Mom’s life lessons on family

There in the basement, her iron in her hand, my mother was teaching on life to this man
Contentment is peaceful, no strife in your way, you simply relax and enjoy your day
Your marriage is teamwork, you trust in your spouse, and while they’re away, you’re at work keeping house
You’re in need of nothing, your wants are supplied, you trust in the Lord for all things beside
Life’s little pleasures are all around you, if you strive too much, you’ll miss out on them too
Simple is better, slower is best, contentment is cultivated while you’re at rest
Time that you spend with your family is rich, don’t miss it for nothing, don’t take the bait switch
The job and home life are balanced, you see, for raising up children the way they should be
His contribution is to work at his job, dads will provide through their labor of love
Habits of goodness, our citizenship, we knew better than to give any lip
The mother’s love labor is here in her nest, where she teaches us the things that are blest
Molding our character, making us good, even if we unwillingly would
Now fully trained, thus all became we, what was often referred to as a family

Just Like Dad

For dads who have lost their dad

This boy was born to be my son, and right now he’s the only one
This Christmas it is bittersweet, to see him playing at my feet
Reminds me of my times with dad, and all the great times that we had
And though he’s absent from us here, this Christmas time God’s peace seems near
The spirit that he formed in me, is the kind of dad I want to be
I’ve walked his footsteps, now I see, that my boy’s doing that to me

In dad’s place now, I have the Lord, I have His love, His truth, His word
Shaping me for my next task, to know His will, I simply ask
To teach my son that God gave His, and that today He truly lives
And wants to live inside of us, and make our lives so joyous
God give me a disciple’s role, I trust in You, please make me whole
And we will live for You alone, to bring You glory, make You known

Restoring a Marriage

Your marriage rift, it breaks our heart, we do not wish to see you part

Relationships aren’t easy, but, let’s work to get you on your mark

The first thing that we’ll kill is pride, it sabotages from inside

Makes us think we’re always right, keeps us itching for a fight

Blaming others for our faults, insulates and puts up walls

Relationships, they don’t need walls, but working hands and overalls

Hands that work to build them up, and serve their needs, expressing love

For love covers all our sins, forgives faults, and helps us win

For wounded hearts are fortress walls, but through repentance they can fall

The sacrifice required to win, is simply, daily, giving in

To meet the needs that others have, to heal their wounds, apply the salve

 –

Anger doesn’t feel the same, when you’re receiving all the blame

But love forgives and overlooks, all the sin that Jesus took

If He took our sin the same, why are we the one to blame?

Every sin was paid for there, with the thorns He wore like hair

We must forgive and let them go, for the Bible tells us so

That frustration that we feel, is just our pride and sin revealed

Forsake it now, and break it’s chain, we never need to blame again

That fortress is a sturdy piece, the one inside it won’t release

But the Word can drill a hole, into the heart and seize the soul

Release the door you’re holding closed, embrace the One who loves you most

Reward the ones you love, with you, let your love just pour right through

 –

Your purpose here is not complete, so let’s get moving. On your feet!

Provide for what your family needs, your priestly work is love in deeds

Lead them gently with respect, walk before them circumspect

Make your home a haven from, the harsh life lived without the Son

Fill your home with joy divine, through life connected to the vine

Your mind each day is in the Word, thinking through the words you’ve heard

And praying for the grace of life, this marriage with your faithful wife

She seeks your best through every storm, and sees that you are fed and warm

What greater good could one man want, a custom chef and restaurant

But thankless men just throw away, the blessings God gives every day

Heedless to the life they live, forsaking all the joy God gives

 –

Let’s be the wise man, build your house, give love daily to your spouse

Sacrifice for her each day, and all your life she will repay

Change your thinking to renew, the value that God placed in you

Make your life a lighthouse for, the wife and children you adore

Sharpen arrows for your bow, in your quiver they will go

When they’re ready, on the string, launch them high and let them zing

Launch them, burning, toward the dark, pierce the darkness, hit the mark

God’s plan for them to be revealed, and with their faith, their hearts are sealed

You only have them for a while, so use your love just like a file

Shape them to their own design, remember that God calls them, “Mine”

Stewards of what God has given, till our reward, our home in heaven

New Life

Celebrating life with the ministry of pregnancy resource centers

From the beginning it ever was, Life itself was never born

Always existed as Creator, from His hand the world was formed

According to His master plan, before all time, created we

In the image of the Godhead, of His Son He made us be

Product of a parent’s oneness, joy they can bring to our heart

Through the path of life’s decisions, the joy they bring is just the start

With value not in gold or silver, their personhood is more than that

Their value is what the Maker gave, the price He paid is where it’s at

Our value, it just can’t compare, to anything we have down here

Our lives are spent seeking His face, our purpose is to just draw near

The value of a life that’s given, up for God’s abundant use

Is a life that’s worth the living, with treasure we will never lose

The life of Jesus is the template, for what our children could achieve

If our faith is strong enough to show to them how to believe

Obedience to His command is just the path that we must go

Follow Him whate’er the cost, commitment to God we will show

One holy Child came to this world, His Father’s will to simply do

His mission to redeem the lost ones, reached out in love and He saved you

One life that’s given to the Maker, what then would He now create

A heart of praise unto the Father, a gift of love and not of hate
